The Open Road Theatre Conservatory Program: Fall 2008 Curriculum

Drama Workshop: Scenes and Monologues for grades 7-12
Hannah LaBonde of Cape Ann Community Theatre will be teaming up with Karen McElvain of The Open Road Theatre to teach a drama workshop this fall. The 6-week workshop is open to students grades 7-12, meeting at the Hamilton Community House from 3:30-5:30 on Thursdays September 18-October thru 23rd. Each student will work on a performance piece to share with family and friends at the conclusion of the workshop. The cost for this workshops is $195. Profits will benefit both ORT & CACT.

Actor's Workshop I: Grades 4,5,6
Come play lots of fun theatre games while learning the craft of Acting. Students will learn the basics every professional actor learns, taught by a trained theatre professional who enjoys working creatively with kids. If you have ever wanted to be an actor, this class is for you. Bring a friend or make new friends.
Wednesdays, Sept. 24 thru Oct. 29th, 4:00-5:30 [6 weeks, 9 hours]
Class limit: 12 students
Participation fee: $150

How Halloween Came To Be: Myth Making Workshop for Grades K-3
Come create an original short play about How Halloween Came to Be. We will make up the story together while you decide who you want to be in the story. Look though your family's closets to create your character's costume. We will perform our play on Oct 31st, Halloween, the last day of class , followed by parent generated ghostly treats and beverage, finishing with everyone in costume leaving class to meet up with their friends to go Trick or Treating. If you like to make up plays and become imaginary people then this class is for you. Bring a friend or meet new friends.
Fridays Oct 3rd, 17th, 24th, 31st, from 3:30-4:30 [4 weeks, 4 hours]
One Performance: Oct 31st at class time.
Class limit: 15 students
Participation fee: $125

Costume Design Level I: Peter Pan
Is an introductory class for all teenagers, ages 13 through 18, interested in costume design. The class will consist of taking a costume from the basics of sketching and choosing fabric through to completion of one simple costume. Some sewing experience on a machine, or by hand will be helpful, but not necessary.

Workshop Dates:
· October 27th and 28th at 3:00pm until 5:00pm, at the Hamilton Wenham Library for the reading of the script by the actors cast in Peter Pan.
· Saturday afternoons from 2:00pm until 4:00pm for 3 weeks on November 8th, 11th and 22nd, to be held at Peter Pan’s Costume Designer home in Wenham.
· The week of December 8th, we will meet one afternoon at the library with the actors, for a final fitting of the costumes that have been completed by each student.
Materials needed: Your own sewing kit with scissors, pincushion, pins and needles as a basic kit.
